I've recently come into posession of a VOX Symphonic Bass - s.no 69573.
It's a P-bass styled, 4 String bass.
It has a Fender shaped body, and from what i can see has a 2 tone sunburst thing going on.
There are 2 knobs (tone and volume), controlling the single 4 pole pickup.
The pickguard covers most of the front of the body of the bass.
The tuning pegs are the clover style tuners.
The headstock is Fender-esque. and has a string tree.
On the front of the headstock, is the detailing of "VOX SYMPHONIC BASS"
with a slightly worn triple trapezoid JMI logo, with the words "Dartford, Kent" On the back of the headstock, near the E string tuning peg is the serial number, debossed into the wood. and another decal "Made in England"
The fretboard is rosewood, the neck I suspect is maple.
Will attach pictures soon... I can't find neither my card reader nor my camera's cable.
I do believe its more than 25 years old, but would really like to verify its authenticity.

Ah.
It's been a while hasn't it?
Well, today I discovered the wonders of an effects loop.
Having read about it on the web for a long time, I decided to try it out today.
Also, I wanted to try out my new pedal; a Rocktron Short TImer. Essentially a digital delay pedal.
Got it on sale from www.music123.com. I've been quite impressed with it. Altho, there is this irritating POP sound when engaging the pedal.
I'm wondering if it's caused by a static buildup on the stomp switch. I'm gonna be opening it up to take a look at its guts.
Also, I will be modding my fart-like Boss DS-1. It just doesn't have that nice bell like tone and instead has this wierd farting noise that comes out of it when cranked up.

Thats my current setup.
I love how my Takamine sounds with the heavier guage strings. The bottom end has that meaty growl, very warm mids and nice mellow highs. Only problem is... my fingers are now dead. the tension on the strings is enough to strangle a yak, left handed,
but in the search for tone, what's a little carpal tunnel between friends?
The Yamaha APX-SPLi has been with me for about 12 years now, not quite a dreadnought body, and not quite a parlour sized guitar. It sits in that happy middle zone where I can happily play it on its own, but still has enough guts to hold its own being played through a PA. Best part is she sounds brilliant in DADGAD!
but sadly, there's a crack on the neck joint, have retired her from live shows.

| Acoustic Jams |

So this week was supposed to be our first acoustic jam. with ser on vox and ian and myself on guitar.
but our tiny singer still hasnt recovered from her bout of the flu.
came home early. so stoned with my guitar on my bed and realised how much i missed my acoustic. well technically she's not mine. a borrowed guitar that has been to several gigs and has made me a much better player than i've ever been. but somehow she's never felt like my old yamaha apx. but its sad that my old guitar has a slowly increasing crack at the neck joint. after years of abuse, on and off stage, guess its finally time to say goodbye to her. and yet letting go of her is impossible to do.
I've spent the last 2 years searching for a replacement acoustic guitar. and nothing has ever come close to how the old yamaha sounded or played. mind you, there have been several that got close. but they also happened to just cost over 3000 dollars each. thinking about my approach to replacing my acoustic, I think i've got it all wrong. I should not be finding a guitar to replace another one. I can't compare a new guitar with something that has grown with me over the last decade of learning, playing and making music together. I shouldn't be thinking about replacing her. Instead, it should be about me finding a guitar that will take me to the next level. that will accompany me on a new tonal escapade. a new journey.
maybe one day it will lead me back to you.
